Bright Yellow Accents: guest bedroom reveal

It seems like the perfect time of year for a bright yellow themed post!

If you've been here before you may have already seen the first stage of our guest bedroom makeover, when it went from four magnolia walls to two dark blue ones contrasting with a monochrome headboard. It lifted the room up already enough to not make me want to run out every time I was in there.

But something was still missing, a bit of warmth to be exact. That's where the second stage of the makeover came in.

i had neon pink or bright yellow in mind so i reached out to my insta-fam and their great taste, and the decision was made, yellow it was... (thank you insta-friends!)

Let's look back at how the room looked before...

And this is after the first stage of the makeover, with two dark blue walls and one monochrome wallpaper feature making a headboard:

BEFORE: Whilst this was a good first step into the right direction, the room felt cold and was lacking accents and colour to tie the scheme in.

BEFORE: The biggest change in the second stage was made by upcycling the wooden bookshelf, painting it in bright yellow.

I planned to finish it off by adding yellow accents, and one big yellow piece by painting the wooden bookshelf in a tone that would make it pop out of the deep blue wall. After trying a few sample pots, I decided to use Rust Oleum Painter's Touch Bright Yellow with a gloss finish.

I started by priming the unit, and once dry I then applied two coats of Bright Yellow.

I also replaced the bedside tables with a pair that I painted in the same shade of blue as the walls, to give it a more unified look and also increase storage and practicality for guests staying over. I spray painted the drawer handles in copper for a touch of metallic.

Furniture in place, the next step was to accessorise the room! I made yellow prints for each side of the bed and framed them in grey frames. I finally added some yellow cushions and throw, and that's it - guest bedroom makeover done!
